The right to photograph in a public place – no.2
Another disturbing story has appeared in the Argus. Brighton photographer Andrew White was stopped by two female PCSOs whilst taking pictures of Christmas lights. When he questioned them on why he was stopped he was told it was connected with counter-terrorism.
Defending the action of the PCSOs, a Sussex Police spokesman allegedly said that Mr White was thought to be taking too many photos in a busy shopping area.
It’s reminiscent of a sketch in the comedy programme ‘Not The Nine O’Clock News’ where Constable Savage is being taken to task for arresting a man for “walking in a loud shirt in a built-up area during the hours of darkness”.
